Puppet Museum has an artistic building in the Great North Door, Street 27 West Jakarta, was built in 1912, previously as the land of the church, built in 1640 under the name De Oude Hollandsche Kerk (Old Dutch Church). In 1732 the Museum Wayang renovated and renamed the De Nieuwe Kerk Hollandsche (New Holland Church). This church building had been completely destroyed by an earthquake. Bataviasche Genootschap Kunsten van en Wetenschappen (Batavian Society of Arts and Sciences), which are the institutions dealing with science and culture of Indonesia bought this building.
The institute building was then sent to the Stichting Oud Batavia (Batavia Lama Foundation) and on December 22, 1939. There are several collections that are being sourced from overseas, some of them are from Kelantan, Malaysia, Suriname, French, Cambodia, and Thailand.
